Balkans Heighten Tourist Security: Budva Police Find Cocaine, Croatia Expands Safety Program

Police in the Montenegrin seaside town of Budva conducted extensive identity checks on 95 people across several hospitality venues. Officers discovered cocaine in one establishment and detained a suspect, part of a broader preventive effort that officials say has lowered crime rates despite a surge in tourists.

In Croatia, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Davor Božinović marked the 21st anniversary of the "Safe Tourist Destination" project in Šibenik, noting that international police units assist visitors and help overcome language barriers. He said, "Tourists choose Croatia because they feel safe here," citing high clearance rates for crimes and the initiative as a key factor attracting visitors.

Both actions underscore a regional push to assure safety for the heavy influx of tourists during the peak season.
