Updated Balkan drug, weapons & migrant-smuggling raids

Overview

The summer crackdown continued across the Balkans with a wave of new operations. On 5 July Croatian authorities fined a woman for a tiny cannabis hand-over and indicted a dual-citizen for a 3.5 kg cocaine run from Hungary through Bosnia to Croatia, while Bosnia saw seizures of cannabis-amphetamines and Montenegro imposed fines on festival-goers for drug-related offences. Serbian police arrested a school-yard shooter and a dual-national linked to narcotics production. A 4 July shooting in Čakovci, Croatia, led to the discovery of over a kilogram of marijuana, synthetic cannabinoids and cocaine, prompting investigative detention of the gunman. In mid-July, a joint “Black Peak” raid in central Bosnia seized a large cache of firearms, ammunition and cash, and Croatian officials dismantled an ATM-skimming ring in Dubrovnik. Serbia’s historic 5-tonne marijuana haul in Konjuh faced an indictment deadline on 24 July, while a parallel small-scale cannabis bust was recorded in Zagreb. The same week, Serbian and Bulgarian police broke a migrant-smuggling network that moved Afghan migrants from Turkey to Western Europe, arresting five suspects and seizing vehicles, weapons and cash. July-August raids in Croatia uncovered further weapons and drug stockpiles in Igrane, Tisno and other locales, and a Montenegro-wide security sweep in Budva seized cocaine at a hotel. Bulgaria reported a fentanyl-related death surge, underscoring the growing synthetic-opioid threat. On 2 August, coordinated actions in Bosnia and Croatia seized multi-kilogram cannabis, MDMA, ketamine, LSD and related equipment, extending the region-wide effort to dismantle drug trafficking and associated arms flows. In early August, police in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, seized white powder and tools during a raid on a suspect held for theft and drug offenses. In Tisno, Croatia, authorities detained a Macedonian national and a British national for possession of MDMA, ketamine, cocaine, LSD, and psilocybin mushrooms.
