Overview

The crackdown on organized crime in the Balkans intensified in September 2026 with significant developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through “Operation Amadeus,” police from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska arrested Milutin Mića Danilović, Vladimir Grubačić, and Aleksandar Nikolić. The suspects are accused of participating in an international criminal chain that sourced narcotics, primarily marijuana, from Montenegro and Albania for distribution in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union. The group is also suspected of illegal arms trafficking and laundering over 300,000 euros in cash. Danilović and Grubačić were ordered into one-month detention, while Nikolić remains under house arrest.

In a separate major enforcement action, the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Indirect Taxation Authority conducted “Operation Bure” in the Ilijaš municipality on September 16 and 17. This operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 1.1 tons of synthetic cathinone, described as the largest seizure of synthetic drugs in the country’s history. Authorities estimated the street value of the stimulant could reach between 25 and 33 million euros in the surrounding region. Alongside the narcotics, police seized firearms, mobile phones, business documentation, official seals, and specialized filtration masks used in chemical synthesis. One individual, identified as Kenan Ramić, was arrested during the operation as investigations continue into the smuggling network.
