Croatia accidents: Tree collapse in Crikvenica and boat crash near Krk

Several incidents occurred in Croatia over the weekend involving public safety and maritime accidents.

In Crikvenica, a 13.5-meter Aleppo pine tree collapsed on Balustrada beach, injuring several Croatian and Czech citizens, including children. Most victims sustained superficial wounds and were released from KBC Rijeka after medical evaluation. The local utility company, Eko-Murvica, stated that Aleppo pines have shallow root systems and noted that factors such as long-term drought, soil characteristics, and the beach's embankment could affect stability. The company has announced additional inspections of trees in high-traffic public areas.

Additionally, a maritime accident occurred near the island of Krk, where a 9.26-meter speedboat carrying two Croatian citizens struck the southwest coast between Sveta Fuska and Torkul beaches. Both individuals were injured and evacuated to KBC Rijeka. In Rijeka's Pećina area, two minors (ages 14 and 16) were injured when a balcony from an abandoned villa collapsed; they were treated at KBC Rijeka and remained in stable condition.

Separate from these primary events, maritime authorities reported multiple rescues involving people on kayaks and SUP boards swept out to sea by strong winds (Bura) near Krk and other coastal areas.
