Balıkesir Water Authority BASKİ completes 2026 irrigation preparations in Manyas

The Balıkesir Water and Sewerage General Directorate (BASKİ) finished extensive pre‑season work for the 2026 irrigation season in the Manyas Ovası region of Turkey. Activities included mechanised cleaning of open canals, weed control, and detailed maintenance and technical inspection of closed irrigation lines to ensure reliable water delivery.

The preparations are aimed at serving roughly 2,000 local farmers, with the Manyas Reservoir operating at full capacity and supplying water to about 150 decares of farmland. Officials who attended the season‑opening ceremony included Manyas Mayor Ahmet Duru, Kaymakam Mustafa Salih Bayram, Balıkesir Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Akın, and regional coordinator Murat Karakoyun. They highlighted the goal of uninterrupted irrigation to support a productive harvest.

The coordinated effort underscores the region’s focus on agricultural sustainability and rural development through improved water‑infrastructure management.
