Baloch and Pashtun activists protest human rights abuses at UN
Baloch and Pashtun activists held protests at the United Nations in New York and Geneva to denounce alleged human rights violations by Pakistani authorities. The demonstrations coincided with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address to the UN General Assembly.
The Baloch National Movement (BNM) organized a rally in Geneva during the 63rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council and held a photo exhibition at the Broken Chair monument. BNM representatives alleged that over 30,000 Baloch people have been forcibly disappeared and more than 8,000 killed. They also highlighted the exploitation of Balochistan’s mineral resources.
Simultaneously, the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) protested in New York, citing concerns over extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and the presence of unexploded ordnance in Pashtun areas. The PTM also condemned military actions in areas straddling the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
