Balochistan Conflict Escalates Amid Operations and Rights Al

Overview

Following the BLA’s August economic blockade and attacks on security convoys, conflict in Balochistan has intensified. Between 1 and 8 August, the BLA reported 38 operations targeting military assets, claiming over 32 military deaths. Tensions escalated significantly due to Pakistani Air Force airstrikes in the Surab district; while authorities reported 10 deaths, the BLA and local activists claimed at least 27 to 30 civilians, including women and children, were killed in the Gidar area. The BLA has since vowed an intensified campaign against state targets, including military infrastructure and railway tracks. In response, security forces launched Operation Rad-ul-Fitna-3. Additionally, Interior Minister Ziya Langho announced that security forces foiled a BLA plot to use two underage girls, aged 12 and 16, in suicide attacks, stating the minors had been held in captivity and subjected to psychological pressure. In September, the BLA claimed responsibility for multiple attacks, including 25 deaths in separate operations on 3 September and 52 deaths across 28 operations between 1 and 7 September. Concurrently, increased military activity and drone surveillance in the Ketch district have reportedly led to the displacement of Baloch families. Between 14 and 23 September, the BLA claimed responsibility for 25 separate operations across regions including Panjgur, Kech, Kharan, Khuzdar, Mastung, Washuk, and Nushki. Human rights organizations, including Paank and the Baloch Voice for Justice, have reported an escalation in civilian killings, abductions, and extrajudicial executions.
