Baloch Yakjehti Committee seeks UNHRC attention over human rights in Balochistan

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has welcomed international attention regarding the human rights situation in Balochistan, specifically following discussions at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The organization expressed support for the Global Human Rights Defense (GHRD) after it raised concerns regarding the detention of BYC leaders and called for UNHRC intervention.

In addition to international advocacy, the BYC is protesting domestic judicial actions in Pakistan. The group decried the life sentence handed to activist Gullazadi Baloch, labeling it a “predetermined verdict” and part of a pattern of state persecution intended to silence political voices. The BYC alleged that the judicial process lacked independence, noting that the presiding judge had previously indicated he was under pressure to deliver a severe sentence.

The committee also continues to seek accountability for alleged enforced disappearances, including the death of 20-year-old student Imran Ali, whom the group claims was forcibly disappeared from Quetta in August 2025. The BYC is calling for independent investigations and continuous monitoring by international human rights institutions.
