Human rights concerns in Balochistan

Human rights organizations in Balochistan have raised increasing alarms regarding enforced disappearances and state persecution. In August 2026, the Human Rights Council of Balochistan (HRCB) reported the disappearance of 20-year-old student Safia Baloch from Quetta, alleging involvement by Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department and Inter-Services Intelligence. The HRCB noted this as part of a broader pattern, claiming 23 women were abducted by security forces between January and July 2026.

By September 2026, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) began seeking intervention from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to address the regional situation. The BYC has protested domestic judicial actions, specifically a life sentence handed to activist Gullazadi Baloch, which the group described as a “predetermined verdict” used to silence political voices.

In late September 2026, the BYC expanded its allegations to include forced displacement and extrajudicial killings. The committee condemned an order from the Assistant Commissioner of Kalat requiring residents in several areas, including Shor Parod and Khalili, to vacate their homes by September 28, labeling the move “collective punishment” and a “genocidal policy.”

Furthermore, the BYC reported the deaths of several civilians, including a teacher, Abdul Khaliq, killed in his home in the Khuzdar district. The committee also reported that the bodies of two farmers, Munir Ahmad and Safar Khan, were recovered after they had been missing for months following alleged forced disappearances by the Frontier Corps. The BYC continues to demand international investigation into these patterns of violence.
