Balochistan train bombing kills 24 and injures over 50 in Pakistan

A bomb exploded on a railway line near Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province in southwestern Pakistan, detonating a train that was carrying soldiers and their families. Pakistani officials reported at least 24 people dead and more than 50 wounded. The train was travelling between Quetta and Peshawar when the blast caused the rail car to derail and gunfire was heard afterward.

The Baloch Liberation Army, an insurgent group seeking autonomy for the region, claimed responsibility for the attack. Balochistan is Pakistan's largest and poorest province, and armed attacks by separatists have been frequent as they accuse the federal government of exploiting local natural resources without benefiting the local population.
