Seferihisar Mayor İsmail Yetişkin Detained in Major Bribery Probe Involving Balçova Mayor

Turkish prosecutors have opened a large‑scale bribery investigation targeting the Seferihisar municipality. Seferihisar Mayor İsmail Yetişkin was detained and, together with 19 other suspects, was sent to court. The operation also implicated Balçova Mayor Onur Yiğit, who was released under judicial control, and several municipal officials and local businessmen. Authorities allege that officials accepted bribes and illicit payments in connection with construction and zoning permits ahead of the March 2024 elections. Courts ordered the detention of 12 suspects, while others were released on bail or placed under house arrest. The probe continues as further evidence is examined.
