Baltic border authorities intercept migrants via tunnel and land crossings

Border authorities in the Baltic region continue to face pressure from irregular migration originating from Belarus. In southeastern Latvia, border guards discovered a hidden underground tunnel covered by moss near Kraslava. This tunnel was used by 28 individuals to illegally cross the state border, marking the second such incident in the region this month.

In Lithuania, the State Border Guard Service reported the turning back of 13 irregular migrants on Saturday. These incidents occur amid a sustained migration crisis that began in 2021. Since the onset of the crisis, approximately 25,800 irregular migrants have been prevented from entering the country via the Belarusian border.
