Baltic Sea nations coordinate drone defense amid rising security threats

Baltic Sea nations are coordinating to establish a joint task force for drone defense to counter growing hybrid threats. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced the initiative, noting that the task force aims to facilitate rapid information exchange following various incidents of suspected sabotage against undersea cables and gas pipelines in the region.

Simultaneously, Baltic, Polish, and Finnish commissioners have warned of a “deteriorating security environment” in a letter to the European Commission. The officials cited an increased frequency of Russian airspace violations and drone incursions. In response to these rising tensions, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are increasing defense investments and expanding military infrastructure and fortifications.

These security concerns follow reports of potential Russian false flag operations and intelligence suggesting Russia may test NATO resolve. While officials have not confirmed an imminent conventional attack, the focus on drone defense and regional fortifications reflects heightened readiness against hybrid warfare and airspace incursions.
