Baltimore Orioles hire Jared Banner as General Manager

The Baltimore Orioles have appointed Jared Banner as their new general manager. Banner, 41, joins the organization from the Chicago Cubs, where he spent six seasons in the front office, most recently serving as assistant general manager under Jed Hoyer.

In his new role, Banner will work alongside Mike Elias, the Orioles’ president of baseball operations. His responsibilities will include leading player development, coaching, and performance efforts, as well as assisting with strategy, staffing, and talent acquisition.

Banner’s professional background includes roles with the New York Mets as executive director of player development and a lengthy tenure with the Boston Red Sox, where he rose through various scouting and player personnel positions. The hiring comes as the Orioles look to improve upon their recent seasons, having finished below .500 in the 2026 season.
