Bamako: Husband detained after wife found dead from gunshot wound

Racky Diaby, known as Harkia, was found dead from a gunshot wound in her marital home in the Faladié district of Bamako during the night of October 6-7, 2026. The incident occurred approximately ten days after her wedding on September 27, 2026.

Authorities have taken her husband, identified as 29-year-old Cheick Sy, into police custody. During the initial investigation, officers discovered an automatic pistol at the couple's residence. Investigators are currently working to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting and whether the recovered weapon was used in the incident. While the husband has been detained, officials stated that the seizure of the firearm does not, on its own, establish his direct involvement in the death.
