Bamboo Airways restructures as debt worries loom in Vietnam

Vietnam's Bamboo Airways, founded in 2017 and launched its first flights in early 2019, rapidly grew to a fleet of 44 aircraft serving 21 of the country's 22 airports and about 18 international destinations. Recent reports note that the airline has not published its August 2026 schedule and is burdened by debt amounting to several thousand billion Vietnamese dong, sparking speculation about its viability.

Analysts link the financial strain to problems at its parent conglomerate, FLC Group. The airline is undergoing a restructuring that includes cutting unprofitable routes, seeking new investment and reorganising staff. Academic Nguyen Thuong Lang remarked that “investment in aviation requires massive capital and a steady flow of funds,” and described the carrier as “a handsome prince with feet of earth,” highlighting the precarious balance between growth and financial sustainability.
