Bamboo Airways restructuring and flight cuts
Overview
In late July 2026 Bamboo Airways announced a series of service disruptions linked to an ongoing restructuring. On July 29 the airline issued a public apology after recent schedule adjustments led to numerous cancellations, promising full refunds and setting up an online registration system for affected passengers. Two days later, on July 31, Bamboo Airways announced the suspension of its charter route between Hanoi and Lệ Giang in China, citing a review of the service’s viability as part of its broader fleet and network optimisation. Passengers with bookings were instructed to seek refunds or alternative arrangements, highlighting the airline’s focus on streamlining operations and concentrating on more profitable routes.
Later on July 31, the carrier also removed all August availability for major domestic routes such as Hanoi‑Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi‑Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh‑Da Nang from its website, and reported a surge in refund requests with customers facing long call‑centre wait times. The airline said it was grounding most of its aircraft as part of the restructuring and noted that its planned acquisition of wide‑body Boeing 787s was adding financial pressure. Analysts observed that the combined suspension of charter and scheduled services would further consolidate Vietnam’s domestic market among the remaining airlines.
By early August, reports indicated that Bamboo Airways had not published an August 2026 schedule and was burdened by debt of several thousand billion Vietnamese dong, raising doubts about its viability. The strain is linked to financial difficulties at its parent FLC Group. The restructuring now includes cutting additional unprofitable routes, seeking new investment and reorganising staff, while the airline continues to process refunds, though high demand may lengthen handling times.
