Bambu Lab and Creality advance desktop multi-material 3D printing

The landscape of desktop 3D printing has shifted toward accessible multi-material and multi-color capabilities, moving away from expensive industrial-only equipment. Systems like Bambu Lab’s Automatic Material System (AMS) allow users to switch between up to four filaments automatically mid-print by retracting the current filament and purging the nozzle to clear the path for the next material.

Recent comparisons between consumer models, such as the Bambu Lab A1 and the Creality SPARKX i7, highlight different engineering approaches to multicolor printing. While both offer similar speeds and build volumes, they utilize different feeding systems: the Bambu Lab A1 uses the AMS Lite, while the Creality model employs the CFS Lite. The CFS Lite utilizes dedicated motors for each filament slot to manage feed tension and includes integrated passive desiccant for moisture management.
