Bambu Lab and Creality desktop 3D printer market dynamics
Overview
In late July 2026, Bambu Lab’s move toward a closed, proprietary ecosystem prompted many makers to explore open‑source alternatives such as Prusa’s Original Prusa XL, Core One and Voron DIY kits. A legal dispute over a developer who enabled local‑network printing heightened concerns about user control. At the same time, Creality offered deep Amazon discounts on its Ender 3 V3 SE, K1C, K2 Pro and K2 Plus Combo, positioning itself as a budget‑friendly option. Within a week Bambu Lab responded by launching the A2L and A2L Combo in Indonesia, targeting SMEs and creators. By early August the company joined an industry‑wide price‑cut campaign, offering up to 50 % off combo packages alongside Creality, Elegoo and Anycubic.
As of mid-August, the competition in multi-color printing remains intense through targeted discounts. Bambu Lab is offering the P1S Combo, featuring the AMS 2 Pro system with active material drying up to 65°C, for 549 euros. Creality has announced a 32% discount on its K2 Pro Combo, priced at 749 euros until September 15, 2026. The K2 Pro utilizes a Creality Filament System (CFS) to manage up to four spools while protecting them from humidity.
The market is increasingly shifting toward accessible multi-material printing. Engineering approaches differ between consumer models: the Bambu Lab A1 utilizes the AMS Lite, whereas the Creality SPARKX i7 employs the CFS Lite, which uses dedicated motors for each filament slot and integrated passive desiccant. Additionally, the Bambu Lab A1 Mini has seen significant price reductions in Japan, appearing on Amazon for 29,990 yen. While the A1 Mini is noted for high print quality and automatic calibration, some users have reported issues with spool holder tension, large camera file sizes, and touchscreen responsiveness.
