Bağımsız Maden-İş leaders Gökay Çakır and Başaran Aksu released

Gökay Çakır, General President of the Bağımsız Maden-İş Union, and Organizing Specialist Başaran Aksu have been released from custody. Both were detained on August 26 following investigations into charges of “inciting the public to hatred and enmity.”

The arrests occurred during protests by workers from Doruk Madencilik and Eti Gümüş, companies affiliated with Yıldızlar SSS Holding, who were demanding unpaid wages and severance pay. Aksu had initiated an indefinite hunger strike on September 1 to protest his detention.

Union representatives stated that the legal actions were an attempt to suppress the struggle for workers' rights. Following the court's decision, the two unionists are expected to be released from Sincan and Akhisar prisons respectively.
