Banat region hosts traditional folk and culinary festivals
The Banat region in Romania is hosting two upcoming cultural events focused on preserving local traditions.
On September 15, 2026, Timișoara will celebrate Ruga Timișoarei at Rozelor Park. The event features performances by various folk ensembles, including Cununa Timișului and Ansamblul Timișul, showcasing traditional Banat songs, dances, and costumes. Additionally, a theatrical performance titled ‘Iovan Iorgovan’ will be presented at local schools on September 17 to introduce younger generations to the region's historical heritage.
On October 17, 2026, Ciacova will host the fifth edition of the Păturata pe Crumpi Festival. This gastronomic event focuses on the culinary heritage of the Banat wilderness, featuring live cooking demonstrations of ‘păturata pe crumpi’ by traditional cooks from both the Romanian and Serbian Banat regions. Other local dishes such as sarmale, papricaș, and gomboți will also be featured, using locally sourced potatoes.
