Cultural and folklore celebrations in Romania and Moldova

Romania is hosting various cultural and folklore events aimed at promoting regional traditions, heritage, and multiculturalism.

Initial celebrations focused on regional folklore ensembles, such as the Transilvania National Folklore Ensemble in Finteușu Mare and the Nedeia Folklore Ensemble in Rășinari, which showcased traditional music, dance, and folk costumes. Subsequent events expanded to include Jewish Culture Days in Oradea, the 30th Turkish-Tatar Dance, Song, and Folk Costume Festival in Constanta, and the observance of Swabian Kirchweih traditions by the German community in Arad. Additionally, cultural programming featured film presentations, reading tours, and commemorations of sculptor Constantin Brancusi.

Recent activities have expanded to include cross-border cultural exchange between Romania and Moldova. The National Theatre of Iași is scheduled to perform in Chișinău as part of the 11th Reunion of Romanian National Theatres to promote shared values. In Oradea, Jewish culture continues to be celebrated through theater, music, and dance, featuring performances by the Israeli duo Daphna Levy and Menachem Zibziner, alongside a national film tour for ‘3 zile în septembrie’ by Tudor Giurgiu.

Other significant events include the 25th anniversary of the Roma Traditional Festival in Bistrița-Năsăud, which celebrates ethnic coexistence. In Constanța, the 30th International Festival of Turkish-Tatar Dance, Song, and Folk Costume involves over 800 participants. Commemorations for the 150th anniversary of Constantin Brancusi’s birth include a ‘Silent Reading Party’ at the Brancusi Monumental Ensemble in Târgu Jiu featuring actress Maia Morgenstern. Regional festivities also continue in Aradul Nou, Bănia, and Gârbovăț.
