Banat Village Museum to salvage two traditional structures

The Banat Village Museum in Timișoara is set to preserve two traditional structures from Caraș-Severin County that were at risk of degradation. Between August 19 and 21, a fortified pastoral shelter from the Rudăria area and a small water mill from near Prilipeț village will be dismantled and transferred to the museum.

The pastoral shelter, donated by the Dancea family, features a wooden beam construction with two rectangular bodies set on large stone boulders, a style characteristic of the Banat mountain region. The water mill is distinguished by its horizontal wheel and an extended roof designed to shelter pack animals.

Museum manager Radu Trifan stated that these abandoned structures were in danger of disappearing within a few years. Once at the museum, the buildings will undergo documentation, conservation, and restoration before being reconstructed for public visitation to better represent the traditional architecture and lifestyle of the Banat mountains.
