Banca Transilvania's Star program hits 800,000 cards and 50,000 merchants in Romania
Banca Transilvania announced that its Star loyalty and payment ecosystem has surpassed two milestones: 800,000 Star shopping cards issued and a network of about 50,000 partner stores, both physical and online, across Romania.
The program, now described as a full‑service payments, credit and benefit platform, lets cardholders make interest‑free instalments of up to 18 months, earn loyalty points (1 point equals 1 leu) and redeem them for purchases in categories such as electronics, home‑garden, insurance and tourism. Oana Ilaș, Deputy General Manager of Retail Banking, said, “We have built around the Star program an ecosystem that brings together customers, merchants and technology to make things simple, accessible and relevant at every buying moment.”
For merchants, joining Star provides access to a large customer base, higher average basket values and increased brand visibility through Banca Transilvania’s digital solutions, including BT Pay, POS terminals and e‑commerce integrations. The bank remains the leader in Romania’s card market, managing roughly 8.5 million cards and extensive POS, ATM and soft‑POS infrastructure.
