Banco de México international reserves fall to $257.5 billion
The Banco de México (Banxico) reported that its international reserves stood at $257,554 million at the close of the week ending September 11. This represents a weekly decrease of $481 million, primarily driven by changes in the valuation of the central bank's international assets.
Despite the weekly decline, the reserves have seen a cumulative growth of $5,679 million compared to the end of 2025. The bank noted that the discrepancy between the dollar-denominated reduction and the nominal increase is due to the depreciation of the Mexican peso against the various currencies that comprise the assets.
Additionally, the monetary base—consisting of currency in circulation and current account bank deposits—increased by approximately 13,918 million pesos, reaching a total of 3.53 trillion pesos. This reflects a year-over-year increase of 235,718 million pesos.
