Banco de Portugal launches pilot service in Bragança
Banco de Portugal has launched a pilot program called ‘Atendimento BdP Itinerante’ in Bragança, in partnership with the local municipality. The initiative aims to bring central bank services closer to citizens in regions where distance to physical service points acts as a barrier.
Operating on an experimental basis for six months, the service will be available every Friday at the Bragança Municipal Market. This initiative is designed to save residents from traveling approximately 200 kilometers to the nearest permanent service location.
Available free services include consultations of central bank databases, such as the Credit Responsibility Center, the Account Database, and the list of high-risk check users. Additionally, the service will provide guidance on financial literacy and the rights and duties of banking customers. After the six-month period, the Banco de Portugal and the Bragança Municipality will evaluate the results to determine if the model should be continued.
