Banco de Portugal itinerant service pilot in Bragança
Overview
The Banco de Portugal (BdP) initiated a pilot project titled ‘Atendimento BdP Itinerante’ in Bragança to improve access to central bank services for residents in remote territories. The project is a partnership with the Bragança Municipality, which provides facilities and community outreach support.
As part of the six-month experimental program, services are held every Friday at the Bragança Municipal Market. This initiative is intended to prevent residents from having to travel approximately 200 kilometers to reach the nearest permanent service location.
Available services include guidance on financial literacy and banking customer rights, as well as consultations of central bank databases, such as the Account Database, the Credit Responsibility Center, and lists of high-risk check users. Following the pilot period, the BdP and the municipality will evaluate the results to decide whether to maintain the service or expand the model to other regions.
