Banco do Brasil initiates R$ 100 billion rural debt renegotiation

Banco do Brasil has launched a renegotiation process for up to R$ 100 billion in rural debts, following Provisional Measure No. 1.376/2026. The initiative targets producers and cooperatives that suffered losses due to climate events or market price fluctuations across two or more harvests between 2019 and 2025. Approximately 113,000 agribusiness clients are potentially eligible for these special credit conditions, with 36% of the total volume currently in default.

Additionally, interest rate discounts for agricultural financing are increasing for producers who have had their Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) analyzed by state environmental agencies. In the 2025/26 harvest, 6,000 contracts for medium and large producers received this benefit, totaling R$ 1.6 billion. While the discount process is automated based on official data, the expansion of this benefit depends on the speed at which state authorities validate environmental registries.
