Banco do Brasil renegotiates R$10.4 bn under Novo Desenrola program
Banco do Brasil reported that it renegotiated R$10.4 billion (about US$1.86 billion) in overdue debts through the government’s Novo Desenrola Brazil programme, also known as Desenrola 2.0, since the initiative launched in May 2026. The programme covers individuals, small and medium‑size businesses, rural producers and students with FIES loans, and permits borrowers to use up to 20 % of their FGTS (severance fund) balance to settle part of the debt.
Across the whole country the Desenrola programme has processed more than R$20 billion in debt‑renegotiation agreements, benefitting over 6 million people. According to the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), roughly 4 million consumers had negative registrations cleared, while about 1.1 million paid their debts in full with discounts that reached 80 %. The deadline for new enrolments is 3 August, after which borrowers must negotiate directly with creditors.
In addition to the formal programme, Banco do Brasil observed spontaneous renegotiations by 562 000 individuals who independently settled R$6.1 billion of debt outside the official scheme.
