Banco Santander announces 1.825 billion euro share buyback
Banco Santander has announced a new share buyback program totaling up to 1.825 billion euros. The initiative aims to reduce the bank's share capital and is expected to begin on August 24, 2026, concluding by January 8, 2027.
This program represents approximately 25% of the group's ordinary profit from the first half of the year. Depending on the average purchase price, the bank could acquire up to 1.47 billion of its own shares. The decision aligns with the bank's 2026-2028 strategic plan, which prioritizes investor remuneration through a combination of cash dividends and share repurchases.
The bank has already obtained the necessary regulatory permissions to proceed with the buyback.
