Bandit assaults in Zamfara kill 10 miners, abduct 100 and displace 484 people

In Zamfara State, bandits attacked a mining site in Anka and Maru districts, abducting more than 100 miners and killing 10, according to the Emir of Anka. The federal government approved the deployment of an additional 6,000 soldiers to the state following the incident.

A separate bandit raid on 15 June in Gamo Gidan Bita, Birnin Magaji Ward, displaced 484 residents – 271 children, 129 women and 84 men – and left five casualties (three dead, two injured). The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) reported that this attack adds to a growing humanitarian crisis, with nearly 800,000 internally displaced persons across Nigeria’s north‑west, including 279,224 in Zamfara alone.
