Plateau State: Gunmen kill two and burn houses in four community attacks
Gunmen launched coordinated attacks on four Berom communities in Plateau State on Tuesday night, resulting in at least two deaths and one injury. The violence affected Gwa-Wereng Rim, Kyeng Village in Bachi District, Dorong, and Jol Village.
In Gwa-Wereng Rim, Bulus Mwagwong, also known as Dikko, was killed, while his cousin Yakubu sustained critical injuries. In Kyeng Village, 47-year-old Stephen Dachollom Kaze was also killed. During the raids, attackers reportedly opened fire on residents and set houses ablaze in Dorong, forcing many to flee.
In Jol Village, armed assailants engaged local vigilantes in a gun battle. The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) condemned the attacks, describing them as a threat to the safety and livelihoods of rural residents, particularly farmers. The association has called on security agencies to increase their presence in vulnerable areas, intensify surveillance, and prosecute those responsible.
