Bandit attacks in Sokoto's Dangulbi community kill dozens, prompt security appeals

Armed bandits attacked the Dangulbi (also reported as Dan Gulbi) community in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Nigeria, twice within 48 hours. The first assault on Sunday killed at least 17 people, including visitors celebrating Eid‑el‑Kabir, looted about 20 shops and forced residents to flee into nearby forests. A second raid on Tuesday saw attackers on motorcycles fire indiscriminately, set houses ablaze and leave an estimated 20 dead, with many others missing.

Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal condemned the killings, saying, "I am deeply saddened and heartbroken by the unfortunate attacks on Dangulbi community," and called for enhanced security across the Sokoto‑Zamfara axis to protect vulnerable communities. Police officials mobilised personnel to the area and awaited a comprehensive field report.

The repeated attacks have intensified local calls for stronger security measures and unity in confronting the growing bandit threat.
