Bandits abduct passengers, including newlyweds, in Kwara
Armed bandits abducted several passengers, including a newlywed couple, along the Iyemero-Eruku Road on the border of Kwara and Kogi states on Saturday evening. The victims, identified as Funmilayo Bamidele and Reverend Abiodun David, were reportedly traveling back from their engagement ceremony in Eruku when their vehicle was intercepted.
Reports on the total number of victims vary, with some sources citing seven passengers and the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, stating that three persons were kidnapped. The vehicle used by the victims was later recovered and found parked at an abandoned police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State.
A joint rescue operation involving the military, police, and local vigilantes has been launched. Because the incident occurred near the borders of Kwara, Kogi, and Ekiti states, security operatives from the affected regions are working together to comb the surrounding bush to locate the abductors and secure the release of the victims.
