Kidnapping of passengers in Nigeria

Overview

On September 26, 2026, armed bandits intercepted a vehicle along the Iyemero-Eruku Road near the borders of Kwara, Kogi, and Ekiti states. The victims, who were traveling from an engagement ceremony, included a newlywed couple. While initial reports varied on the number of people taken, with the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, stating three persons were kidnapped, subsequent reports indicated a total of six victims, including the couple and four others.

The victims' vehicle was later recovered at an abandoned police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State. In response to the abduction, a joint rescue operation involving the military, police, and local vigilantes was launched across the affected border regions.

By early October, the family of one victim, Precious Alonge, issued a public appeal to raise 10 million Naira for ransom to secure the release of the kidnapped individuals.
