Bandung's Husein Sastranegara Airport to Reopen September 2026

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) is accelerating the reactivation of Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung, aiming for full operational readiness to handle jet aircraft by 17 September 2026.

Preparations cover air‑side and land‑side works, including runway overlay, taxiway upgrades, apron reconstruction, and upgrading the airport fire‑fighting category from 5 to 7. Additional ARFF vehicles, improved rescue equipment, and enhancements to baggage, X‑ray and lighting systems are also planned.

Kemenhub coordinates with the Air Force base sharing the site and with Angkasa Pura, which has confirmed the September target. Two service models are being considered: one for turboprop and charter flights, and a second allowing Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 operations, pending airline route proposals.

The reopening will initially serve domestic routes with the possibility of future international flights.
