Bangkok flood situation eases as major canals recede
Bangkok's flood situation is beginning to ease as water levels in major canals, including Khlong Saen Saep, Khlong Prawet Burirom, Khlong Lat Phrao, and Khlong Prem Prachakon, have passed their peak levels. Authorities report that 24 main roads have returned to normal conditions, allowing for regular traffic flow.
Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt stated that recovery efforts are underway, particularly in the Rom Klao Housing Community in Lad Krabang, where water levels have dropped by 30 to 60 centimeters. It is expected that approximately 80 percent of the Rom Klao area will be dry within the next day. While some areas like Min Buri, Nong Chok, Prawet, Saphan Sung, and Sai Mai still face standing water, the city is deploying water pumps and push boats to accelerate drainage.
Regarding upcoming weather, the Governor expressed confidence that new rainfall will not match the severity of the previous week, noting that current forecasts predict approximately 30 millimeters of rain. The city is also managing potential impacts from northern water runoff and sea tides by utilizing existing flood barriers and preparing to drain as much water as possible in anticipation of further rain.
