Bangkok flooding causes major disruptions as rain intensity subsides

Heavy rainfall has caused significant flooding across Bangkok and surrounding provinces, impacting transportation and residential areas. While weather patterns indicate a decrease in rainfall intensity as low-pressure systems move toward western Thailand, several key areas remain under high alert.

In Bangkok, major intersections such as Bang Kapi and areas in Lat Krabang, Min Buri, and Nong Chok continue to experience high water levels. Some residential communities, including Khlong Chan and Rom Klao, have faced severe flooding, with water levels reaching up to 1.5 meters in certain spots, necessitating power cuts for safety and evacuations for approximately 1,500 residents.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is working 24 hours a day to pump water from main canals—including Khlong Saen Saep and Khlong Prem Prachakorn—into the Chao Phraya River to facilitate drainage. Authorities have advised motorists to avoid flooded routes, particularly in Bang Kapi and near Sri Pathum University, where small vehicles risk stalling.

On a national level, the government is preparing emergency relief budgets for affected provinces. While the Chao Phraya River currently has capacity to absorb more water, officials are monitoring dam levels in Kanchanaburi and Phetchaburi, warning of potential evacuations in districts such as Nong Prue and Bo Phloi.
