Bangkok flooding triggers emergency shelters and transport suspensions

Heavy rainfall in eastern Bangkok, particularly in the Lat Krabang area, has caused severe flooding, leading to significant property damage and shortages of essential goods in local shops.

In response, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) has partnered with the Lat Krabang District Office to open the Chao Phraya Surawong Waiyawat Auditorium as a major emergency shelter. The facility is prepared to accommodate over 1,000 displaced residents, providing food, drinking water, and temporary lodging. KMITL has also established a disaster management center and an on-site kitchen to distribute supplies, while implementing flexible academic policies for students affected by the crisis.

Regarding water transportation, the Marine Department reported rising water levels in Khlong Saen Saep. Consequently, boat services on Khlong Saen Saep have been temporarily suspended for passenger safety. While services on the Chao Phraya River remain operational, authorities have issued warnings to all vessel operators to reduce speeds and exercise extreme caution to prevent damage to riverbanks and riverside communities.
