Bangladesh expands Boeing aircraft purchase commitment

Bangladesh has pledged to purchase additional Boeing aircraft from the United States, expanding upon a previous commitment to acquire 25 planes. Sergio Gor, the US special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs, announced the multibillion-dollar expansion following discussions between US President Donald Trump and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The new commitment significantly increases the initial order, though the specific number of additional aircraft, total value, financing arrangements, and delivery schedules have not been disclosed. This development follows a July 2025 revision where Bangladesh increased its planned Boeing procurement from 14 to 25 aircraft to modernize the Biman Bangladesh Airlines fleet.

Previously, in April, Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed an agreement to purchase 14 aircraft, including Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, 787-9 Dreamliners, and 737-8 MAX models. The expanded aviation deal is viewed as a major component in strengthening commercial and diplomatic relations between Dhaka and Washington.
