Bangladesh President urges healthcare improvements to reduce medical tourism
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that improving the quality of healthcare services in Bangladesh could reduce the number of patients seeking medical treatment abroad. He noted that the country already possesses world-class medical facilities.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Hepatology Society Dhaka, led by Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam, discussions focused on the availability of liver transplantation services within the country. Professor Alam highlighted an alarming rise in fatty liver disease, linked to diabetes, unhealthy diets, and lifestyle changes, as well as a gradual increase in hepatitis B cases.
The President urged medical professionals to perform their duties effectively and rise above political considerations. He also accepted an invitation to attend the upcoming conference of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) as the chief guest.
