Bangladesh medical tourism and healthcare development
Overview
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for improvements to the quality of healthcare services in Bangladesh to reduce the necessity for citizens to seek medical treatment abroad. He noted that the country already possesses world-class medical facilities.
During discussions with the Hepatology Society Dhaka, medical professionals highlighted an increase in hepatitis B cases and fatty liver disease. The President urged medical professionals to perform their duties effectively and rise above political considerations.
In a separate development regarding regional cooperation, Pakistan has expressed interest in expanding medical tourism ties with Bangladesh. At the Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Fair 2026, Pakistan's High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, noted that medical tourism represents a significant area of potential for bilateral relations and people-to-people contact.
Haider emphasized that both nations possess rich tourism resources, including historical sites, cultural diversity, and natural beauty, which can be leveraged to bring the two populations closer through affordable travel and specialized services. Two companies representing Pakistan's medical sector are participating in the exhibition to explore business opportunities and facilitate exchange between stakeholders.
