Bangladesh probes former president Mohammed Shahabuddin over corruption and crimes against humanity

Bangladesh’s Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman said the government is reviewing corruption allegations against former President Mohammed Shahabuddin, relating to his time as an Anti‑Corruption Commission commissioner and as a director of Islami Bank. He added that if investigations confirm the allegations, legal action will follow, while the Home Ministry has found no grounds for his arrest and will continue to provide security.

Separately, two opposition groups filed complaints with the International Crimes Tribunal seeking a probe into alleged crimes against humanity committed by Shahabuddin during the 2024 Intifada against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government. ICT chief prosecutor Md Aminul Islam confirmed receipt of the complaints, though no decision has been made yet. The investigations are ongoing.
