Bangladesh targets halal economy for strategic growth

Bangladesh is looking to diversify its export base by prioritizing the halal economy as a strategic growth engine. Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir stated that the sector has evolved beyond food and beverages into a comprehensive global system including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, logistics, finance, and digital technology.

As the nation prepares to transition from its Least Developed Country status, officials view the halal sector as a way to reduce reliance on the ready-made garment industry. The global halal ecosystem is estimated to be valued between $7.5 trillion and $8 trillion annually, driven by an expanding Muslim population and increasing interest from non-Muslim consumers seeking ethical and safety standards.
