A Bangladesh International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced seven senior leaders of the banned Awami League to death in absentia. The convictions are for crimes against humanity, including murder and incitement to violence, during the 2024 student-led uprising.

The convicted individuals include Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former state minister Mohammad Ali Arafat, and Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim. Other sentenced leaders are Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Saddam Hossain, and Sheikh Wali Asif Enan. All seven are currently fugitives.

The tribunal, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, also ordered the confiscation of 50 percent of the assets belonging to five of the convicts. These funds are designated to be distributed as compensation to the families of those killed or injured during the July uprising. This follows a previous death sentence handed to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in November 2025.
