Bangladeshi national detained at Mumbai airport over forged Indian ID documents

Police at Mumbai International Airport arrested a 36‑year‑old Bangladeshi man, identified as Babu Biswas (also known as Tapas Biswas), after he attempted to obtain a stamp at the immigration counter. Authorities said he had used illegally obtained Indian documents, including a fabricated Aadhaar card, PAN card and an Indian passport, to reside and travel in India. The suspect had entered India illegally in 2016, lived in Kolkata’s Nadia district as a labourer, and used the forged documents to obtain an Indian passport in 2019, which he later used for trips to the Maldives and Colombo.

During questioning, immigration officers grew suspicious of his passport, leading to further interrogation and confirmation of his Bangladeshi citizenship through family documents. The case highlights ongoing concerns about document fraud and illegal immigration.
