Bangladeshi illegal migration in India

In early July 2026, Indian authorities completed the deportation of Mohammad Babu Khan, a Bangladeshi national who had served a 14‑year sentence in an Odisha prison for robbery and dacoity. After his release, he was held in a detention centre, his nationality was verified through the Bangladesh High Commission, and he was escorted to the Benapole‑Petrapole border for return to Bangladesh.

Later in the month, police at Mumbai International Airport detained another Bangladeshi man, Babu Biswas, after discovering forged Indian identity documents, including an Aadhaar card, PAN card and passport. He had entered India illegally in 2016, obtained a counterfeit passport in 2019, and used it for travel abroad. The case underscored ongoing concerns about document fraud and illegal immigration, illustrating a broader pattern of Indian law‑enforcement actions targeting Bangladeshi nationals residing unlawfully in the country.
