Bangladeshi National Mohammad Babu Khan Deported After 14-Year Odisha Prison Term

Mohammad Babu Khan, a resident of Hamirdi village in Faridpur district, Bangladesh, was deported to Bangladesh after completing a 14‑year rigorous imprisonment term in Odisha, India. He entered India illegally in 2002, later becoming involved in robbery, dacoity and other crimes for which nine cases were registered across Baleshwar police stations. In October 2012 the Baleshwar Additional Sessions Court sentenced him to 14 years under Section 395 of the Indian Penal Code, plus a fine. After his release from Baleshwar District Jail, he was held in a temporary detention centre pending deportation.

Police verified his nationality through the Bangladesh High Commission, secured travel documents and escorted him to the Benapole‑Petrapole border on the India‑Bangladesh frontier. Odisha police said the deportation follows legal procedures and highlighted ongoing raids to identify illegal Bangladeshi nationals residing in the state.
