Bangsamoro Interim Chief Minister Macacua's convoy targeted in ambush
An armed ambush targeted the convoy of Bangsamoro Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof A. Macacua in Barangay Bitu, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, on Saturday, August 15. While the attack occurred, Macacua and his companions were reported unharmed.
Government officials have strongly condemned the incident. Maguindanao del Sur Governor Datu Ali M. Midtimbang Sr. rejected the use of violence to settle political grievances, stating that such acts threaten public order and risk deepening mistrust within the peace process.
The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) also issued a condemnation, with Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento expressing relief that the delegation is safe. Sarmiento urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation while authorities conduct a thorough investigation. He emphasized that the Bangsamoro peace process is built on democratic means and called for all political stakeholders to ensure a peaceful environment for upcoming elections.
