Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections Set for Sept. 14 with Massive Security Deployment and Voter‑Education Drive
The first-ever Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections are scheduled for 14 September 2026. The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) confirmed the vote will proceed after the Supreme Court declined to issue a temporary restraining order. To ensure a smooth process, more than 8,300 Philippine National Police personnel will be deployed on election day, supported by additional troops from the Armed Forces and the Coast Guard, as well as about 2,000 officers from neighboring regions. Security planners identified 93 areas of concern, including 10 “red‑category” hotspots, and highlighted cooperation from former rebel groups such as the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Moro National Liberation Front.
In parallel, COMELEC has enlisted five state universities and colleges in BARMM to conduct voter‑education activities. Institutions including Mindanao State University’s Marawi, Maguindanao and Tawi‑Tawi campuses, Cotabato State University, Upi Agricultural School, Tawi‑Tawi Regional Agricultural College and Basilan State College will host seminars, forums and orientation sessions to help residents understand the new parliamentary system. International and local election observers are also being accredited to monitor the historic poll.
