Bangsamoro region prepares for historic parliamentary elections
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) and various security agencies have finalized preparations for the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), scheduled for September 14.
During a final command conference in Maguindanao del Norte, Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia reported that training for election teachers is largely complete and the distribution of election equipment to provincial hubs is underway. The meeting included high-ranking officials from the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the Philippine Coast Guard to ensure a secure and orderly voting process.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla described the upcoming polls as a historic showcase of Muslim-Christian unity, stating the elections demonstrate how different religious groups can govern together peacefully within a predominantly Christian republic. Remulla issued warnings against political intimidation and held security forces accountable for maintaining peace, urging candidates to avoid dirty tactics.
